a boy and a girl
drove until they lost track
got out and walked
until it got dark
hid in a cave on the beach
no idea where they were
or where they were going
the girl said to the boy
Iâm scared
the boy said to the girl
Do you want to go back?
the girl said
No
the boy said
What are you afraid of?
the girl said
That this moment is already fading
Even though Iâm sitting right here
The older I get
The more I want to be a child again
I wanted there to be so much more
the boy stared out at the waves
You donât want to be with me?
The girl placed her hand on the rocky wall
Thatâs not it
I donât want to be me anymore
the boy took her hand
You know this cave has probably been here
For thousands of years
It has seen many suns and moons
Each year it slowly erodes
Bit by bit
One day it will fade
As will you
It just wonât take as long
the girl smiled
In the meantime?
the boy shrugged
For now
We will keep this cave company

Dandy Man
dandy man
give me your hand
we have something great
all this wonder
as you sit by your guitar
you will conquer this world
take it for a whirl
dandy man
you’re a skinny man
but your eyes are full
so powerful
hand to your head
looking sleek
in a Berlin street
dandy man
do all you can
till you can do no more
end it like a riff
strum and shift
you seem to be sure
in that cabinet door
dandy man
in stark lighting
you sing to me
always will be
a vision of colour
like no other
a star man
Gamble
welcome my friends
we are at odds and ends
we are at paradise
on the casino dice
tumbling on and on
to that same old song
come on down
to the ground
where the punters pound
where âitâ can be found
on a smiling pill
can make you ill
can make you buzz
at least you think it does
come and take a dip
in the power trip
counted your chips
like a fleet of ships
time to make your move
time to always prove
that the winner lies
with sparkling eyes
look in the mirror
your poker face is clearer
we hope you remember
you are all an exclusive member
so keep your cards close
try not to overdose
give into your pleasure
leave at your leisure
and share a bed with lady luck
just so you know
she does not give a f**k

I think
I sink
Drawing flowers
Passing hours
Withdrawal
Not normal
Blank document
Feel embarrassment
Morning shame
Play the game
Wall staring
Fear flaring
I wait
I hate
I think
I sink
Companion
Four years
Sipping cask wine
Basking in fading light
Celebrating our isolation
After decades of stress
Each day promising
Something new
Spontaneity guiding us
A coin flip for North or South
My darling
You have aged with the grace
Of a balmy night breeze
Remember that December
We had Christmas
In a forest
No tinsel or gifts
Just a river
Just our skin
Travel with me further
To the edge of life
For I will always be
Your companion
And the road will
Always be our home
Until the fuel runs out
A Reworking Of Love
“Never close your mind to whom you have invited to peer in,
I am nothing, you are nothing. Though something dwells within.
At first you were a familiar stranger. No thought of love existed,
Then solos met in duets and our melody persisted.
You brought me to a mode of speech without self editing,
Your face brought a source of light I found worth admitting.
Nothing is sealed in fate. Everyday is a choice,
Could you feel the same without the calm in their voice?
Feel our hand grooves gently grow deeper,
Discard others like souls to the reaper.
A trade of giving oneself over to the other,
A destruction of privacy for the gain of a lover.
It may appear at times you lose identity,
Something uncontrollable, its own entity.
Instinctively you will find a balance in the tether,
Even when apart you will always be together.
A secret bonds us upon every kiss
Hand in hand, we float through the abyss.”
Explanation
This poem was created after consuming a lot of chocolate. Not just any old chocolate but Baci. For those who do not know, Baci chocolates come wrapped up with a little piece of paper with a quote about love. Usually from notable people but some anonymous.
I kept a whole bunch of these quotes and wrote them down. Some were superb in simplicity while others were on the verge of being regurgitated into Valentine’s Day card messages.
After seeing them all together I took elements from each quote and tried to embed them into a poem with my own take of love. I did not want the poem to be too romantic but rather a more honest description on what I have experienced.
Below I have listed all the quotes I used for inspiration and would like to thank the authors, Baci and my partner for the material. Enjoy!

Oh
Hello there, me again
The voice inside your head you ignore
Just wanted to let you know
That everyone you love is going to die
That you will most likely die a painful death
And it doesn’t even matter
The world is going to shit anyway
Your government is probably lying to you
Everyone is becoming a fat keyboard warrior
Drooling over the fact that Queen B blinked
That you like to think you’re an individual
Yet the ongoing spread of communication
Means we have all become clichés
That the most joy you get in life
Is living through fictional characters
And that people are progressively more repugnant
You are glad if you don’t see another human being for a whole day
You will most likely work in a job you hate
For your very short life
To save up enough money
For some underpaid carer to forget to shower you
So you can sit there in old age
And think what a waste of time and space our society has become
But hey, you will die
Hopefully you live somewhere where euthanasia is legal
That’s all
